Biography of Associate Professor Stephanie Smith
Dr. Smith received a BA from Washington & Lee University in Lexington,
VA in 1989, and an MA and PhD (2000) from Rutgers University in New
Brunswick, NJ. She has been a member of the YSU Department of Art faculty
since 1998.
Dr. Smith has received many fellowships and honors including a Fullbright
fellowship (1995), a Samuel H. Kress Foundation fellowship at the Biblioteca
Hertziana in Rome, Italy (1995-1998), and a Deutscher Akademischer Austausch
Dienst Research Grant from the German government (1995).
Dr. Smith's presentations and publications deal with funerary art and
ritual commemoration in the Roman world, and Roman glass. Dr. Smith
is currently completing the forthcoming publication of the man-made glass
from the Sopritendenza
Archeologica di Roma/American Academy in Rome Palatine East excavation,
one of the largest assemblages of late antique glass to be published for
the city of Rome.
