BA in Art History

          The major in Art History combines stylistic analysis and visual literacy with the study of social and political history, ancient mythologies, and world religions.

         All Art History majors take a two-semester Survey of Art History and upper division courses in Western and non-Western art. Course offerings range from the ancient traditions of Greece, Rome and the Ancient Americas, to contemporary art and theory. In Senior Seminar each student develops a topic within the scope of the general theme chosen by the professor for that semester. In the past, these have included The Art of the Book, and Censorship and Art in the late 20th Century.

          Art History classes utilize the extensive museum and gallery resources of Youngstown, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Students have the opportunity to intern, volunteer, or work part-time in the McDonough Museum of Art and the Butler Institute of American Art.
