BFA in Art and Technology The art & technology major explores the creative potential of the computer as an expressive vehicle for artists. The curriculum covers many of the concepts and tools utilized in the production of contemporary digital art. The focus of this major is on the development of a critical aesthetic vocabulary as related to the production of digital animations and interactive media. Students will be encouraged to explore a wide range of processes including interactive screen-based art, the World Wide Web, CD-ROM production, and sound and image production. In addition, in animation students will investigate areas including digital image making, compositing, digital video production, non-linear editing and exploration of modeling and 3-D animation. Working within a fine arts context students will endeavor to develop a personal aesthetic. It is the mission of the art & technology major that students be trained as visual artists, literate both in the employment of technological tools, and in the critical issues central to contemporary digital art practice. The program is broadly-based with the intention that students would narrow and concentrate a focus in graduate school or in employment after graduation.
